Now on to today's stuff.
Dr Lee's bioRA lesson today was very fun. We were doing a lab lesson where we had to test out the various effects of different drugs on the heartrates of Daphnias or water fleas.
The daphnias are very spastic, they keeping swimming around on the microscope slide, making it almost impossible to keep them still long enough to observe. And their heartrates are at an incredibly high 300-400 beats per minute.
We only got to handle regular over-the-counter drugs like ibuprofen and paracetamol, cos Dr Lee said that the more fun stuff were tightly controlled. I really wanted to experiment with the opiates heroin and morphine.
After the actual experiment, we gave up soaking the daphnias in drugs and started looking around for more liquids. Stuff we found and used:
-HCl (yes hydrochloric acid)
-copper sulphate solution
-Ethanol
-random cocktail of all the drugs
-Petrol (found this is the lab, dont ask why)
A really complicated diagram for all our readings.
Then lockleong, darren, welras and i randomly decided to take a group photo for no particular reason. I thought this was usually done by girls. I think lockleong has a tendency for feminine behaviour.
