I went to watch How to train your dragon on saturday.

It was a fairly typical mainstream family movie. Wimp guy catches super rare dragon that no-one has ever caught before but decides to release it cos he's too wuss to kill it. They make friends! Form some awesome plot to save the world and change the social hierachy of vikings and dragons!

Oh and guy gets the girl too.

The humor was done well, not too childish but not too intellectual or subtle either. But the 3D effects were not done well enough as there was not enough visual depth in the projection. Other than that i think it was quite a fun movie.

Go watch it! and the tiny little green dragon reminds me of a cute little mouse.

There is nothing much to blog about these few days.

Archery training has finally moved on from mindless PT sessions to actual bow training and i am very grateful for this, as my arms are still not ready to do 200+ pushups in a span of 3 hours. Yes i am noob.

I will find something else to blog about once school reopens. :)

Dramafeste's first performance has run, which means now i am free to spoiler everything and rant like crazy about it.

*exhales sharply*

I believe i will get quite a lot of agreement with the notion that BW's play this years is a far cry from its usual standard. The plot was choppy and badly resolved and the actors performed much better during rehearsal than during the actual performance.

Ok that's kinda to be expected, but i think the audrey role did not bottle her fury enough and just let it explode out uncontrollably. Which kinda ruined the victimised wife image a bit.

Teck wee also did not put in as much emotion in his regret scenes as during rehearsals.

I hope the play runs slightly better in tonight's performance without the stress from judges watching.

How can you hate something so badly yet love it so much?

Today i am torn between being incredibly happy and being incredibly sad.

Let's talk about happy first.

A few weeks ago i went for the bio olympiad selection test. However, my gpa did not meet the minumum requirements, so halfway through the test....

teacher: excuse me, are you russell lim?
me: yeah?
teacher: you're not supposed to be here. you did not meet our minimum gpa requirement. your test results will not be considered.
me: what??
teacher: but you can do the test for fun if you like. we will only "consider" it if you do exceptionally well.
me: uhh, ok.....

and today i got a letter:

Bio olympiad training.

EPIC WIN. :)

Sad part now.

I am currently in 2 RAs.
I am running for council.
I am an archer.
I am attempting to take an RSI project.

Now i am faced with the choice of taking 2 olympiad trainings (yeah i got chem also woohoo). If i take both and somehow not die epicly for the rest of the year i could well be labelled "Most Epic Win Student of the Year".

Or if i fail i will probably spend the rest of my life living in a cardboard box.

I have no idea what to do now.

Archery today!

OMG ARCHERY TRAINING IS A FAR CRY FROM SHOOTING

Summary:

-2 rounds around PPCC
-150 pushups
-50 jumping jacks (8 counts)

Ok this is damn little compared to other ccas. BUT STILL.

I suddenly miss how slack shooting pt was. I can complete the shooting pt and come out laughing lor.

Welras shared his lateral thinking puzzles wit the girls in class today. Their reactions are priceless.

Sigh. I am aching in at least 4 different places now and there is a large blister on the sole of my foot. Time to do some soul searching i guess.

Running for council! (please don't laugh)

Yeah. I'm running for council. What a surprise move! But its going to be my last 2 years in RI and I want to make my time here count for something. I really hope i make it through the interview and campaigning.

I got rejected for Bio Olympiad selection. Curse you selection board. Got matthew lee and chew hongen dont need me ah? (actually yes, matthew and hongen can solo the IBiO and pwn the rest of the world with their hands tied to their blindfold while being towed by a speedboat in a swimming pool). But it still came as a pretty big shock ._.

Going for first archery training this friday. I hope there's nothing too extreme, cos my legs still hurt from being a retard during and after PE lesson.

argh i havent blogged in a very long time.

First things first. RIP project is a killer. Not that i have any difficulty thinking of good project ideas, but my proposal got shot down because it requires the use of large expensive equipment and difficult-to-procure chemicals. (another reason is that the bacteria in my experiment is capable of causing tubercolosis but i still think rj rejected it cos of budget issues)

My 3rd pair of earphones have finally died after one year of usage! Its funny how alll my earphones keep dying after exactly one year, regardless of price (my first cost 10bucks, my 3rd cost about a hundred i think). I think this time i shall switch to a good sturdy pair of headphones for a while.

I watched Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief today, and i was rather disappointed with the flow and the storyline. I mean the story was about greek mythology, but there were only snippets of actual mythology references, and there was not much effort to tie in greek mythology into the storyline.

There was also the issue of the romantic(?) subplot between percy and the daughter of athena. It started extremely abruptly and illogically, and was not resolved at the end of the movie. This left me very confused. If you're going to include a romantic subplot, it should be properly developed and concluded! Not rushed and erratic like this!

Today's medsoc talk was a complete waste of time.

The seniors that came decided to spend the first 1 and a freaking half hours playing pictionary and taboo instead of actually telling us what their SIG is about.

And the best part. NO cca points. only 25% attendance required. And the senior can't even tel me what an opthamologist does. What the holy hell. Medsoc fail.

Went for GP tuition today, and i can't stop wondering why are caucasians so tall!

Today's GP diagnostic was very wierd.

The topic was mass media, so i spent 45 mins churning out a half-hearted argument on why we should not bother to read newspapers. I think i will mess it up.

Ever since moving to the rjc side of the campus, i can't help but notice that rjc smells too.....nice. Its somewhat slightly unnerving. I think i prefer RI's grimy sweaty leave-pe-attire-in-aircon-room smell.

Jc tutorial and lecture notes make my bag very very heavy.

I can't decide what i dislike more: lectures or tutorials. Lectures can sleep, but tutorials can random around. ZZZ. Rj life makes me very sleep deprived.

Orientation. What can i say?

BW05, its been great knowing all of you. Thank you all for making orientation so awesome, and also for putting up with all my nonsense (and to giam and kuss, thanks for joining in lol). 3 cheers for taking 2+ hours to decide on things too haha

Batch dance is incredibly fun after you stop messing up every single step, and even more fun when you can do the girls' steps as well.

Orientation has been incredibly fun so far. My og is very fun (but indecisive haha) i guess i probably enjoyed the EA activities the most, even though we didn't complete all 5 stations or get free swensens chow.

Damn i've been bombing cash every orientation day and now i may not have enough left for nugget day out. bleh.

And yet another boring week of JIP concludes!

Probably the most memorable thing that happened this week was a bunch of people not attending the chem lecture because one of them takes BPME, 2 are humprog and the last guy got exactly 2.8 for chem which meant he could go for neither lecture. *giggle*

In other news, cheryl, aaron, bryan and i have come up with a new variant of german bridge, which involves everyone having to win 3 tricks exactly other than a declared "suicider" whose job is to prevent everyone from winning exactly 3 tricks. So people with spastic hands (3 picture cards and everything else for dumping) or hands primarily colonised by a single suit are at a huge advantage.

And playing suicider is not as easy as it seems.

Hello all!

I realised i have not been keeping to my promise of one blogpost a day, but it can't be my fault that my life's so dull and boring right?

Nevermind.

I have made my way into bio and chem RA again, but i'm not sure whether i should take both, because i havent planned out my funeral yet. And there's a certain someone in chem ra who i am very very afraid of. G ask martin who he is.

On a side note, I also heard the the shaun lim-ewan-martin girl DID NOT make it into chem RA. Gasp! The universe has stopped making sense and is about to explode in all our faces! But if her appeal IS successfull then my grades will stop making sense and explode in my face.

Gah, dilemma. whattodowhattodowhattodo??

JIP is extremely dull and boring. Bryan and i were playing I Spy during the maths lecture, which was very hard since we were sitting at the top so all we could see were the backs of everyones' heads.

And for all of bryan's imba observation skills he cannot find a person sitting directly next to him.

Anyways, it was quite a bit of the failures. But i managed to see shiying, jane and alvan(?) there. Sure hope alvan gets into rj. Then i will have another person to random around with.

The cca booths weren't all that interesting, but i managed to find what i was looking for eventually.

Then i pangsehed everyone and went home at 11.30 ._.

On an unrelated note, i found that its relatively easy to tao people who sit on benches. :)

A few days ago i went cycling with a bunch of friends.

One of them (i won't say who but you know who you are) decided to roadrage everyone, and while i was busying avoiding him i paid no attention to where i was going, and ended up leaving the cycling track.

And i collided with a tree.

Now walking is not a very enjoyable activity.

I went to Body World's exhibition yesterday and the visit just served to further reinforce my opinion that Gunther Von Hagens is a genius. The exhibits were both extraordinary insights of science and also stunning pieces of art.

Yes, this is the kind of art i enjoy. Plasticised cadavers in strange poses.

There was also a giraffe and reindeer, which i found highly entertaining.

Not so entertaining were the group of extremely immature girls who burst out giggling everytime they saw a preserved specimen of boobs.

I shaved my head!

Yes. This is not a joke.

Its part of an experiment. I shave my head then let it grow for 6 months and see how my head turns out.

For now, I looks like a hedgehog. Bleh.

RA placement tests were extremely wierd. Chem was actually very easy, just alot of concept application and plenty of tedous calculations. Yet i don't know why so many people keep complaining that the chem paper was hard.

If anything was hard it was th bio paper. All the questions, so unscientific! Absolutely no chance to show off all the awesome cheem terms learnt in Dr Lee happy happy hour! Sigh.

And the Bio essay question! "Write an essay based on one of the following topics. (8m)" But all the topics are too vague, like "Cancer" and "The discovery of Telomerase".

In the end i somehow managed to smoke out a 2 pages essay on immunology. "Immunology"! What kind of screwed up question is that? I managed to cover physical barriers, humoral immune response, cell-mediated immune response, autoimmune disease and AIDS. But i think i definitely missed out a few key points here and there.

I saw some guy writing "Cancer". Damn sick.

1/3 page on anchorage dependence. Another 1/3 on density dependence. And about 1/2 page of why cancer cells don't exhibit either. Holy shit. And there was much much more.

This is a very mugger post. Yeah. I shall now mug econs.

Well after a long hiatus i guess its time to update my blog after all.

To say the least, it was difficult but manageable. Though i spent too long on my yingyongwen (1 hr) and only wrote 3 pages for yilunwen, i still think i should be able to do well.

Lockleong burst into tears immediately after o levels. It was extremely amusing.

Grad Night!

was a complete an huge organisational failure.

The prom king was completely cancelled and RPA upstaged the lucky draw with their own (extremely fail) lucky draw. Then the sound system failed altogether and when the band played, nobody could hear ashraf singing.

So in the end every just ignored everyting in the general direction of the stage, ate everything on the buffet trays and took extremely wierd photos of each other.

I write extremely incoherent blog posts. I think next year i shall keep a diary of my random incoherent thoughts to prevent myself from randoming around too much in jc.

Yesterday i brought a potato to class for aboslutely no reason at all, apart from the fact that the humble potato has earned itself the title of Most Random Vegetable.

First i put it on niuyi's table.

During our presentation today in NUS, Dr Zhao thought we did exceptionally well despite all our stumbling and aaron's extremely fail inpromptu presentation. The reason being she thought we were doing stuff that was waay above our level and hence decided to ignore all the little errors.

I don't know whether to feel honored or ashamed about this.

Surrogates

Today i went to watch Surrogates. Though it was a particularly crappy film (nowhere near max-payne-crappy) it did leave behind some deep impressions on me about the state of humanity.

The movie was about how people use robotic surrogate versions of themselves to go about their daily lives. These surrogates' outside appearance can be easily modified so it becomes extremely hard to tell how the surrogate operator actually looks like.

This brings to question of the various facades modern people put on everyday like masks. Even as students we do have a very shallow exterior that often hides our true personalities and intention. Do we really know who our friends are? Do they really know who you are?

Do YOU even know who you are?

The last scene where all the surrogates are remotely disabled and everyone on the streets just simultaneously collapses, while the fleshy Bruce Willis walks through the dead city was particularly thought provoking.

How do you intend to keep yourself human in a progressively inhuman world?

I went to my cousin's house yesterday to play Halo3 matchmaking.

AND HALO 3: ODST.

HALO 3 ODST IS THE AWESOMEPWNASS!!!

All thanks to the well recieved return of the halo ce pistol, now instant killing anything with a headshot or 2, and the original healthbar system, which make its so much easier to tell if you're going to on your next Rambo charge. You can also carry 4 of each nade now, which is super convenient when you need to bash your way through legendary chieftains and hunters.

Matchmaking was a little more disappointing. I got got by at least 40 different peple from all over the world in halo. I have extreme dislike for the halo 3 pistol.

Tomorrow is geog and physics. Then one more day of happiness before maths and bio.

Then 2 weeks of happiness until chinese 0 lvls.

Today i wento visit wai choong in hospital.

Apparently his lung collapsed on wednesday or thursday and martin and ewan abandoned him at the neighborhood clinic before he was sent to KK.

So he is now in hospital with various tubes attached to his body and no way of relieving himself when he needs to pee because he is not allowed to leave his bed. I imagine catheters would hurt.

Ewan and i also had a very enriching conversation with dr koh about the meaning of life and we managed to reach the consensus that life is meaningless. I look forward to continuing that discussion with them.

It is now only 7 more days to EOYs. I might consider skipping archery this sunday.

I got my music exam results today.

Surprisingly enough, i passed. Even though i messed up 2 of my 3 pieces and completely flunked aural. I guess it really is impossible for anyone to fail a grade 2 exam.

Refurb on saturday was a resounding success.

My group was assigned to help an old man paint his entire house and clean his toilet. When we first entered his house it was extremely clean and well kept. Then the second thing i noticed was

OMGWTF 60" FLATSCREEN PLASMA TV!!!!!

Yeah. So anyways we started moving all the stuff around and cleaning all the yellow off the walls (you'd be surprised how much whiter the wall looks). Then we started painting one half of the house and getting paint all over our hair. Half the group then abandoned us for lunch and came back 1 hour later when we were almost finished with our haf of the house.

About 2 hours later we were done and packed up all the brooms and mops and buckets. Then we were about to leave when....

"Eh what about my kitchen? You never paint my kitchen!!"

Crap. Move everything back again.

Eventually my group managed to finish our assignment adn we went over to help the other 4H group.

Big mistake. The house was a massive bedbug infestation and i started feeling itchy after stepping into the house for 10 minutes. So being the extremely dumb person i am, i koped the can of insecticide, opened the bottom of my shirt and sprayed about 1/4 of the can inside.

Instant relief.

Then 10 mins later my chest erupted into a fit of pins and needles and remained that way for the next 5 hours.

Ryoji broke a kerosene bottle in the guy's house too. Had to evacuate the premises temporarily.

Block Party!

At first we weren;t supposed to eat any of the food provided there cos apparently its for the residents only. So i could only stand there and watch while they all enjoyed an 8 course dinner.

Then a few resident ponned the dinner, so there were many empty places. Which most of the refurb people promptly filled up.

Martin sexy dance! (he's the one in pink).

And halfway during mr law's dance he broke his dancing stick in half accidently lol.

Went home at 9 with an extra goodie bag and a fragment of the aforementioned stick, feeling itchy all over due to leftover bedbugs.

Felt extremely satisfied and useful that day, even though i came home sweaty and tired. Maybe i should do more things like this in the future.

Today i went to Dreams@Kolam Ayer to pack goodie bags for a block party.

Actually half the time was spent trying to explain to the guy there that we came down for that reason. And we also played 1.5hrs of pool while the guys there attempted to contact other guys to find out what a bunch of RI guys were doing in their RC.

Shao tong's pool playing vaguely reminds me of fencing. But at least he was better than who i shall refer to as the walking oil reserve.

Yes people, once again it is time of RI-NTU immersion!

This year's one was very short and sweet, not like last year's where we were dragged down almost every week for 5 weeks consecutively. This year's topic is also a lot more understandable and suannable.

Silver@Rosyth gathering yesterday was awesome.

I was the first to arrive, followed by the NUShigh ppl (who tao-ed me), then some RI ppl (who tao-ed me) followed by the rgs girls and the rest (also tao-ed me).

Most of the day was spent doing wierd retarded stuff like singing the school song and Still Alive at the top of our voices in the middle of a crowded Macdonalds. And throwing french fries at jarret and his girlfriend.

I saw zhixin and shi ping from mayflower yesterday too! too bad only zhixin recognised me.

Ka shing also led us on a stupid wild goose chase to the foot spa on the other side of the road for a reason i cannot remember.

Today was teacher day celebration.

I (and a bunch of equally demented people) were part of a school wide scam that involved a plate spinning performance infront of the entire school as part of the celebration.

So we and a bunch of ~~demented~~ sporting teachers pranced and jumped and contorted (?!) around on stage spinning plates on sticks.

Except there ws no actual spinning. Cos the plates were superglued to the sticks. PWNED.

It was probably the most entertaining act in the entire performance after the raffles chorale acapella.

Here's a bit of advice:

If you're ever feeling low and need a good laugh, invite TG to play pool with you.

Anyway, the crazy retard gang (minus innocent-looking girl) had our reunion at marina square to watch the fireworks. W got there around 5 and bombed our money playing wierd games at the arcade. TG is surprisingly good at street fighter.

The firework this year didn't last as long as last years, but they were still quite awesome. We completely missed the 8.22 pledge thing as we were playing hearts while attempting to get a good view of the fireworks despite the numerous corpulent posteriors blocking our field of vision.

After the fireworks, we went to play pool. Which was a huge fiasco as andrew and tg were both noobs and daniel and spent part of game time explaining the rules of pool. We only managed to play 2 games in total. And most of game time was spent laughing at tg's fail scratches.
